Teen Council Application (2017-2018)

The Contemporary Austin Teen Council is a leadership arts program offering paid positions for twelve high school students (ages 15-18). Meetings weekly from September to May, this group of teens wills serve as an advisory council for The Contemporary Austin and as ambassadors for teens within the museum and community. Projects may include writing and designing creative resources, working with local and visiting artists, giving tours of art on view, and planning museum events. This is a chance to meet artists and fellow teens passionate about the arts, explore contemporary culture, and learn about what's happening in the Austin art community. Become an important asset to the inner workings of a museum!


As a Teen Council member you will...

-meet motivated and passionate teens from around Austin.
-receive an hourly wage for your valuable contributions.
-make your voice heard on our teen Tumblr through art reviews, funny quotes, and more.
-implement creative teen events of your design.
-explore ideas and topics through a lens of contemporary art and culture, lead tours.
-meet and work with local artists through projects and workshops.
-gain in-depth information about how a museum works and creative careers.

Medical Release & Parent Consent Form

This form should be completed by a parent or legal guardian.


I authorize The Contemporary Austin staff, volunteers, or mentors to secure medical care at a local medical facility for my son/daughter while he/she is participating in the museum's programs. This authorization is required in order to provide emergency care to a student participating in The Contemporary Austin's programs.

Recognition and Assumption of Risk Agreement

This form should be completed by a parent or legal guardian.


I, the undersigned parent/legal guardian authorize said child's full participation in The Contemporary Austin's Teen Council including meetings and related program activities. To fully participate, my child has permission to attend weekly meetings. My child may travel to field trip locations in Austin, including artist' studios, art galleries, museums, and other arts institutions. My child has permission to travel on Capital Metro buses and to travel by a privately-owned vehicle driven by an employee of The Contemporary Austin, or gratuitously by third party individuals. As part of the art activities completed by the participants, my child's artwork may be reproduced and published in student-designed materials, including a magazine, posters, t-shirts, and postcards. My child's artwork may also be published on a web page. While participating, my child may be photographed and have his/her photograph included in publications and promotional materials produced by The Contemporary Austin and/or education program underwriters. My child's comments may be included in The Contemporary Austin's publications and promotional materials.


It is my understanding that participation in The Contemporary Austin Teen Council is not without some inherent risk of injury. As such, in consideration of my child's participation, I hereby release, waive, discharge, and covenant not to sue The Contemporary Austin, its officers, servants, agents, volunteers, mentors, or employees from any and all liability, claims, demands, action, and causes of action whatsoever arising out of or related to any loss, damage, or injury, including death, that may be sustained by my child, whether caused by the negligence of the releases, or otherwise while participating in such activity, or while in, or upon the premises where the activity is being conducted.
